Yuma Uncovered’s History Explorers Summer Camp A Three-Day Adventure into Yuma’s Past! Join Yuma Uncovered for an exciting three-day summer camp where young explorers (grades K-8th) will step back in time and uncover the rich history of Yuma! Each day, campers will embark on hands-on activities that bring our past to life, from gold panning and pottery making to planting their own crops—just like Yuma’s early settlers. Camp Schedule: 🟡 Day 1: Strike Gold! Campers will dive into Yuma’s mining history and the unique geology of our region. They’ll learn about the early prospectors who sought their fortunes in the rugged desert and pan for gold in the Colorado River—just like the miners of old! 🟠 Day 2: Ancient Artisans Before miners and settlers arrived, the land was home to thriving Indigenous cultures. Campers will explore the traditions of Yuma’s earliest inhabitants by crafting pottery using ancient techniques. They’ll discover how these communities lived, traded, and shaped the land long before modern times. 🟢 Day 3: From Desert to Farmland Did you know Yuma is the “Winter Lettuce Capital of the World”? Campers will learn how Yuma transformed into an agricultural powerhouse, discovering the irrigation methods that made farming possible in the desert. To finish the camp, they’ll plant their own crops to take home and grow! This immersive, hands-on summer camp is the perfect way for kids to experience history in a fun and interactive way.
